As part of our water damage restoration process, in Step 3, we determine the cleanup method based on the class of water damage. Water damage is categorized into one of the following four classes based on water absorption:
Class 1 Water Damage: This involves the least amount of water absorption and evaporation. It typically affects only a portion of a room or area, or larger areas where materials have absorbed minimal moisture. There is little to no presence of wet carpet and/or cushion.

Class 2 Water Damage involves a significant amount of water, absorption, and evaporation. It refers to water losses that impact at least an entire room or the carpet and cushion (pad). The water has wicked up walls to a height of less than two feet. The structural materials, such as plywood, particleboard, structural wood, and concrete, still retain moisture.
Class 3 Water Damage represents the highest degree of water accumulation, absorption, and evaporation. It occurs when water has wicked up to a height of over two feet or when water from above has affected ceilings, walls, insulation, carpet, cushion, and sub-floor. The entire area is saturated in this case.
Class 4 Water Damage pertains to specialty drying situations. It involves wet materials with very low permeance/porosity, such as hardwood, plaster, brick, concrete, and stone. Typically, there are deep pockets of saturation, requiring very low specific humidity levels for drying.
